Everything you need to get the most out of Tree Studio.
Getting Started
Tree Studio is a visual tool for building and sharing hierarchical trees — org charts, decision trees, knowledge maps, taxonomies, and anything else with a parent-child structure.
To create your first tree: open the app, click New Tree, and you'll start with a single root node. Click the + button on any node to add a child, or press Tab to add a child to the selected node.
To edit a node label: double-click the node, or select it and start typing. Press Enter to save or Esc to cancel.
To navigate the canvas: click and drag to pan, use Ctrl + scroll to zoom, or use the zoom controls in the toolbar.
Templates: click the Templates button in the toolbar to load a pre-built example — great for seeing what's possible before building your own.
Keyboard Shortcuts
| Action | Shortcut |
|---|---|
| Add child to selected node | Tab |
| Save edit / confirm label | Enter |
| Cancel edit | Esc |
| Undo | Ctrl + Z |
| Redo | Ctrl + Y |
| Save to cloud | Ctrl + S |
| Zoom in / out | Ctrl + scroll |
Saving & Organizing
To save a tree to the cloud, you need to be signed in. Click Sign in in the top right and authenticate with GitHub or Microsoft.
Once signed in, open the My Trees panel, type a name in the input field, and click Save. You can also press Ctrl + S at any time.
Your trees appear in the My Trees list. Click Load to open a saved tree, Share to get a shareable link, or Delete to remove it.
Free plan: up to 5 saved trees. Upgrade to Pro for unlimited saves.
Trees are saved to your account and are private by default — no one can see them unless you share the link.
Sharing
To share a tree, save it first, then click the Share button next to it in the My Trees panel. A shareable link will appear that you can copy and send to anyone.
Anyone with the link can view your tree — pan, zoom, expand and collapse nodes — but cannot edit it. They don't need an account.
Shared trees are read-only. To give someone an editable copy, they would need to create their own account and rebuild it, or you can export the JSON (via the Advanced panel) and send it to them.
You can revoke access at any time by deleting the tree from your account.
Embedding
Any shared tree can be embedded in a website, blog, Notion page, or intranet using a standard HTML <iframe>. The embedded tree is fully interactive — viewers can pan, zoom, and expand/collapse nodes.
Basic embed code:
Replace userId/tree-name with the value from your share link. The embed=1 parameter hides the toolbar and editing controls, leaving just the canvas.
Sizing tips: set width="100%" for responsive layouts. Adjust height to fit your content — 400–600px works well for most trees.
Watermark: embedded trees show a small "Built with Tree Studio" badge in the corner. Business plan subscribers can remove it.
